Rural Community Transport

Transport is a key issue for many individuals and communities in rural Kent. One way that communities can tackle the issue of inadequate public transport is through the establishment of community transport schemes in co-ordination with existing public transport. Community transport is the provision of non-profit making transport for those who cannot access public transport, who need a tailor made service or who simply live in an isolated community far from existing public transport routes.

We offer advice and financial support to Parish and Town Councils and community groups for the development of suitable rural transport projects. We can help to build partnerships and advise on sources of funding.

Examples of community transport schemes include:

  • Voluntary car schemes
  • Community transport minibus schemes
  • Dial-a-ride schemes
  • Taxi buses
  • Community bike schemes
