Transport and access to services is a key issue for many individuals and communities in rural Kent. One way in which communities can begin to help themselves is to establish a community transport scheme to supplement existing public transport. These schemes take a number of forms, are non-profit making and designed to meet the needs of those who cannot access public transport, who need a tailor made service or who simply live in an isolated community far from existing public transport routes.

Some community bus schemes operate a Dial-a-Ride service. There is also a dial-a-ride network supported by Kent County Council which operates in most of the county as the Kent Karrier scheme.
